SCAD stuff

It occurs to me that none of my quilts from art school are up on here... so here are the pics... i hand dyed all the fabric and designed the pattern in my software. The header for my blog is the other one that I made... enjoy :)

Studio/Sewing Room/ECT...

Its the place where I work... call it what you like. Until I went to art school, it was always a "sewing room" or a "work room" but suddenly after a few months at school it became a "studio"... whatever you want to call it... i'm never cleaning mine again. And no, I don't mean I'll never organize or sweep or anything like that, I mean next time someone comes to visit I AM NOT shoving everything I am working on or planning to work on into a drawer so the counters are clean. I refuse to do it. I spent the better part of an hour last night looking for backing fabric. I thought I knew exactly where it was, it was supposed to be where I set it after I bought it about a month ago.. but noooo I put it in a trunk full of backing fabric. Is there where it should live? Probably. Did I remember putting it there (with all the other backing fabric I own)? no. So... unless I can do it in a calm and timely manner (timely as in, in my own time) I'm not cleaning it. :) So if you come to visit... don't expect a spotless, um, work area.

Memory Quilts...

As of late I've been searching for a way to help people who have lost a loved one, especially those who have lost someone in overseas in Iraq or Afghanistan. The best idea I've thus far ( i think) is to make memory quilts so that these families have something to curl up with while also remembering their loved one, or hang on the wall as a photo collage or sorts. The problem is, I haven't done anything like this aside from the picture quilt I made for P & SB's wedding. So... I'm thinking I'll make one for both of my grandfathers who have passed and see if I like what I come up with... I started making a memory quilt for one of them while I was at art school, I never finished it, but now might be a good time... maybe i'll be able to come up with something and hopefully it'll work! I'll keep you posted on the results.

The only other thought... which is completely different, sort of... is making a memory quilt out of the clothing of a loved one. I've never really made one of these either, but I have seen several including this one that Paula made for a client. The other option is something similar to the t-shirt quilts I make, only incorporating more articles of clothing besides t-shirts.

A Thank You Quilt

My trainer Matt, or as I call him "the guy who works me out 3 times a week" is set to be deployed in August. So as a thank you to him and his wife for being a military family and making so many sacrifices, I decided to make this quilt. I had fun making it and hopefully they will enjoy it for many years to come.

The Wedding Quilt

Of the quilts that I've made, the one that I probably enjoyed making the most was a picture quilt that was a wedding gift for two of my close friends who are quite possibly the best people in the world. Choosing the pictures and the layout was quite enjoyable and provided them with a lasting memory. I would like to make more quilts like this. Quilts that provide a record of the people and places most precious to you. Anyway... Enjoy!

T-Shirt Quilts

People are always asking me about making a quilt out of their favorite t-shirts or the shirts of their children or loved ones. I have made a few before and while it is not as exciting as designing my own pattern, it does have its own appeal... mainly cause I get to look at the cool shirts other people have. This is a picture of one I made for a friend from college. I'm in the midst of finishing mine up from when I was at A&M and I'm in the process of quilting the one I made with shirts from high school. If anyone is interested in having one made, let me know and I will send you the information about pricing and timelines. Thanks!

Fun Quilts

Hi all. I thought I would post a few pictures of a couple quilts I just finished. Let me know what you all think. They're nothing special, but they were incredibly fun to make! Enjoy.
